28,085 May 1, 1860. This is the first patent under which a shaving mug was registered. It consists of a
a soap cup, a mirror and a water receptacle. All retained within the confines of a
SINGLE COMPARTMENT shaving mug. The inventor was
Thomas E. Hughes, of
66,788 July 16, 1867 This invention introduced the COMBINATION type shaving mug. It combined
two receptacles within one mug. One is for water., the other , located above
the water, but situated at one side, so access to the water is not restricted. The
inventors
107,450 Sept. 20, 1870 This is the invention that introduced the SCUTTLE type shaving mug. By
extending an opening at the side of the mug, opposite the handle a more
convenient access to the water was provided. The inventor was Frank B. Clock of
144,667 Oct. 18, 1873 This is a special arrangement built around the concept of a SINGLE compartment
shaving mug, consisting of 3 parts consisting of a bottom unit bearing a
detachable lamp which can be lit to keep the water in the mid section warm. The
mid section can be held above the open flame by fitting it onto the small peg on
the handle top. The inventors were Andrew J. Furb and Walter C. Knaus of
149,887 April 21, 1874 This is another special arrangement which features a SCUTTLE type shaving
mug, but having the scuttle section tapering downward towards the base,
externally, with only a small opening at the bottom for water access. The tapering
external section tends to hold the brush bristles together in good condition for use.
The
inventor was William Sawyer of
185,791 Dec. 26,, 1876 This invention introduces a shaving mug having a rack for supporting a razor or a
shaving brush . Secondly, a shaving mug with a separate section arranged along
side of its water reservoir. The inventor was John W. Smith and James Smith of
198,225 Dec. 8, 1877 This invention, my
SM-231, also by John and James Smith, of
for supporting a razor or a shaving brush.
258,777 Apr. 28, 1882 This invention introduced the pouring spout on the soap divider wall. If the mug
was slightly tilted, excess water in the soap compartment would pour into the
lower chamber. The inventor was Peter
H. Leonard of
295,463 Mar. 18,1884 This invention is based on a Single Compartment shaving mug. The pouring spout
and a notch on the mug, near the handle, could accommodate a razor or a small
brush. These extensions
exemplify this
Gunther Schoenau of
Huttensteinach.
568,121 Sept. 22 1896 This invention introduces a rather striking addition of an arching overhead brush
holder. Another adaptation placed on a Single Compartment shaving mug. The
inventor was Samuel.T. Varian of
642,834 Feb. 6, 1900 This invention introduces a means on a Combination type shaving mug for
Supporting a shaving brush. It is shown as a forked addition to the top edge of the
soap holder. It is a 2 part mug, with matching numbers stamped on each. The
inventor was Seth William Babbit of
686,502 Nov. 12, 1901 This invention relates to an improvement in shaving cups, and especially that
class which comprises a water cup and a receptacle for soap. The object is to
combine the soap holder and cup so that access may be had to the interior of the
cup while the soap holder is supported in the upper end of the cup. The inventor
was Seth William Babbit of
inventor as indicated for patent # 642,834, (immediately above).
693,959 Feb. 25, 1902 This invention consists of a telescopic or collapsible drinking cup with a soap box
Fitted at the bottom. The inventor was Chares. Finley of
733,057 July 7, 1903 The object of this invention is of a shaving mug of a kind that has separate
vessels for water and for soap in which the soap vessel is provided with a member
which acts both as a handle for the soap vessel when it is removed from the cup,
and as a convenient support for the brush when not in use. The inventor was Seth
H. Leavenworth, of
828,854 Aug. 14, 1906 The main object of this invention is to provide an arrangement as Shaving mug
and finger bowl as will prevent the unsanitary conditions and will ensure the
emptying the finger bowl at the same time rhat the shaving mug is cleaned. The
inventor was Robert J. Kideney of
853,751 May 14, 1907 This invention has as its object to provide a shaving cup capable of being readily
and thoroughly cleaned and providing the means of isolating the soap from the
water, also to provide means of holding the soap firmly in position in the cup.
The inventor was Sylvie Attanasio of
903,089 Nov. 3, 1908 This invention is an improvement
in shaving cups adapted to retain a cake of
soap in the centre of its bottom.
It is constructed with a central depression. The
inventor was Jonas Hollzsager of
911,873 Feb. 9, 1909 The main object of this invention is to provide a shaving cup having a soap
holder in the bottom which will hold the soap above the water in the cup so it
will remain comparatively dry.
The inventor was Jacob Handel of
NY,
946,937 Jan. 18, 1910 This invention is a shaving cup embodying a mirror. The mirror is mounted in
such a way that it normally serves as a cover for the mug, but may be tilted up
for use. The inventor was John C. Dowd of
SM-229 Patent date This invention features a peg on top of the handle. It appears that the soap
or water Compartment was to be held up for heating or convenience for
accessing the water.
